1987. George Graham’s young team faced the all powerful Liverpool in the League Cup Final, when the trophy still had merit. Ian Rush, Liverpool goalscorer supreme, had an amazing record of never having been on the losing side for them when he had scored a goal. When he put Liverpool one up no doubt the commentators repeated that stat ad nauseum…until Charlie Nicholas scored twice. One-nil down, two-one up, as in the semi, was the chant that day.
